Warriors pick up region win over Valwood

The Brookwood Warriors secured their first back-to-back wins of the season as they took down region rival Valwood on Tuesday. It was a close contest, but the Warriors were able to pull off the 3-1 win after a dire stretch.

Every bit of the scoring came early as Valwood took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. But Brookwood bounced back, scoring three in the bottom of the opening frame.

Brookwood had a total of six hits in the game to match Valwood’s output. Jake Dunlop led the Warriors with two hits on the day.

Dunlop was also a force to b reckoned with on the bump for the Warriors as he went all seven innings for a complete game. He picked up the win allowing just one run and recording four strikeouts. Dunlop was able to secure six scoreless innings.

This was an important win for a Brookwood program that has had a very tough year. This was just the Warriors’ third win in 15 games, but it could be the turnaround they need.

On April 6, the Warriors picked up their second win of the season, a 4-3 victory over Southwest Georgia Academy. Combined with Tuesday’s Valwood win, the pair of victories were the first back-to back wins for the Warriors this season. Valwood was also their first region win.

The Warriors currently sit at the bottom of the region, tied with Deerfield-Windsor. As of April 11, Brookwood was 13th in the GIAA power rankings.

Brookwood has a good chance to improve its region record. They have three region games remaining on the schedule, the first being another go at Valwood on Friday. The Warriors will then face Deerfield- Windsor twice, who has had an equally difficult season securing the same record as Brookwood.
