Headmaster's Welcome

Welcome

A warm welcome to Brookwood School! I’m so glad to see you here.

Brookwood School was founded half a century ago by a group of parents who had a vision for their children’s education: to establish a place of learning that extols the ideals of academic excellence and rigor. They agreed that this college-preparatory school should be committed to developing the whole child — academically, physically, spiritually, and socially. And they were emphatic that this education be accessible to all children, without regard to race, creed, color, gender, or national or ethnic origin.

Subsequent leadership helped to put Brookwood on enviable financial footing and built facilities that exceed those of any other independent school in South Georgia. Most importantly, we have been able to attract and retain excellent teachers and coaches to provide the experience that all young people deserve.

Brookwood is on an excellent path as we work to balance traditional and innovative approaches to education. In recent years, for example, we have added a STEAM program to each division (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), with a total of four STEAM labs on campus, including our outdoor STEAM garden. We are advanced in our instructional technology; 100% of our teaching faculty are Certified Apple Teachers, all of our students have access to Apple mobile devices, and we have now been recognized twice as an Apple Distinguished School.

At the same time, we maintain a strong Advanced Placement program, with results rivaling any school in the country. On average our students score over 200 points above the closest local competition on the SAT. In all, 100% of Brookwood’s students are admitted to college, most of whom garner significant merit-based financial aid. This past year, 93% of the graduating class was accepted to their 1st or 2nd choice college or university.

Every single day — and in so many ways — Brookwood’s teachers, coaches, staff and administrators make good on their commitment to developing the whole child. You can see it in the classrooms. On the athletic courts and fields. In the art studios. You can see it simply by walking around our beautiful campus.

At the core of the Brookwood experience is its culture of family and community, a quality that sets Brookwood School apart. And the feeling is evident — everywhere. First graders love to spend time with their senior buddies throughout the academic year, and even sometimes over the summer. Middle and Upper School students feel free to hang out in their teachers’ classrooms at break, whether they need extra help on an assignment or they just want to talk. Psychology students read with our third graders and Mavis, Brookwood’s therapy dog. Our community gathers together to cheer on the Warriors each athletic season. We enjoy recreation and are proud that Brookwood is the only school locally with fishing and sporting clays teams. The sense of connection and warmth here is unmatched.

This year, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary. We are proud of our rich past of excellence, and excited about our bright future. We hope that you will join in our celebration and excitement.

I do hope you’ll come visit us soon. Please contact me directly to discuss Brookwood, or get in touch with our Director of Admissions, Mrs. Rebecca Erwin, to set up a tour.

Go Warriors!
