Brookwood star Waldrop commits to Georgia State

After a long wait and much success on the football field, Brookwood star quarterback Rodge Waldrop has committed to Georgia State.

The Warriors star had a legendary senior season with Brookwood. Waldrop led the Warriors in an unstoppable passing offense that saw him throw for 3,408 yards this season and 40 touchdowns, far and above the national average, according to MaxPreps. He finished the season with a .589 completion percentage and averaged 13.9 yards per completion.

Waldrop will be remembered for many accomplishments at Brookwood, but two games in his senior year will define his legacy at the school. The first came in game six when Brookwood traveled to Deerfield-Windsor for an epic region showdown.

Waldrop was unstoppable and he needed to be for the Warriors to win. Brookwood won that game 59-56.
For Waldrop’s part, He threw 66 passes, completing 42 of them for nine touchdowns in the game. He finished with a .636 completion percentage and set the Georgia state record for single game passing yards, throwing for 698 yards in the game. He received the Georgia High School Football Daily Player of the Week award for the performance.

The second all-time great performance came in the first round of the playoffs, Waldron’s last game in Warrior blue. The Warriors would fall short in the contest, but Waldrop did everything he could in the game.

He had 32 completions for 417 yards and six touchdowns in the game. He completed over 70% of his passes and also rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns.

In his Brookwood career, Waldrop put up astounding numbers. He passed for over 10,000 yards in his career with 110 passing TD’s. He attempted 1,239 passes and now holds almost every Brookwood school passing record. Waldrop is undoubtedly one of the best — if not the best — football prospect to ever come out of the Warriors program.

Waldrop will be headed to a positive situation at Georgie State. The Panthers went 7-6 last year and started their season on a four-game win streak.

They achieved marquee wins over programs like Charlotte and Marshall and made an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, where they defeated Utah State 45-22.

The Panthers currently have four quarterbacks listed on their roster for the 2024 season, all of whom will compete for the starting job. Zach Gibson is listed as a redshirt senior and recently transferred from Georgia Tech in January.

The rest of the quarterbacks rostered for the Panthers are either freshmen or redshirt freshmen. Waldrop will have a chance to compete for the starting job, but regardless he will have a crop of young talent to grow alongside.
