Brookwood gets first win ahead of region match up

William Huff
After struggling through the first four games of the season, the Brookwood Warriors were able to pick up their first win of the season on the diamond. They did so in dominant fashion.

Brookwood got off to a rough start this year, dropping their first four games of the season by an overall margin of 36-4. The Warriors were able to put a stop to the bleeding on Thursday with a dominating 15-0 victory over Highland Christian Academy.

The game was over quickly as it was called after just three full innings of play. The Warriors jumped into the lead early, putting up four runs in the first two innings. There was an explosion of scoring in the third, however, as Brookwood knocked in 11 runs to put the game away.

Owen Bodell was the star of the game for Brookwood. He got the start on the mound and pitched two full innings, giving up zero hits and striking out four in the process. Jacob Dunlop came into the game to relieve Bodell and had 2 K’s in his one inning. In the batter’s box, Bodell showed up and showed out, recording three hits and two RBI’s in four plate appearances.

The rest of the Warriors were getting it done at the plate as well. Brookwood had 10 hits, nine RBI’s in the game, eight different players with hits in the game and four different players with multiple hits.

The Warriors will look to make winning a habit as they face Southland, who are currently first in the region, for their first region contest of the season. Southland had a good start to their year, taking out Westover 17-3 and securing a 16-1 victory over CCA. However, the Raiders are coming off a bad 10-0 loss to Brookstone.

With Southland coming off a disheartening loss and the Warriors coming off a dominating win, this could be the perfect storm for a Brookwood victory.

After Southland, which will be the Warriors fifth away game in a row, Brookwood will enjoy a nice stretch of home games.

Starting on Thursday, the Warriors will play three consecutive home games, two of which will be region matchups against Southland and Terrell.
