Spring dates set for Brookwood football

Brookwood’s upcoming spring practice has the Warriors focused on finding new starters at key positions and building depth for the upcoming season. The Warriors will hold eight days of spring practice, starting May 8 and concluding May 17. The team will practice on May 8 to May 12 and then again from May 15 to May 17.

Brookwood loses 10 seniors from a team that finished 8-4 and 5-0 in GIAA Region 3-AAA. But it returns an excellent group to build around, especially on offense.

“We always start where we feel like we have some absolutes,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “Obviously, on offense, we start with Rodge (Waldrop), T.J. (Thomas) and Rex (Schofill), Chapman (Wolsfelt); some of those guys who have done it for so long. It’s really a great core group to build around. You lose Grant (Gaston) and Kaden (Giles), but we have Briggs Daniel that we feel like is going to be a tremendous sophomore at that position he plays. You lose Destin (Moore), but you’ve got Nic Clark who’s got quite a bit of experience.

“I think one of the things that’ll be curious is see how we develop some depth at our slot position. That’s a position I’m curious to see how plays out, whether we try to find a running back/receiver hybrid or maybe find more of a receiver/ tight end hybrid. Honestly, it ends up shaping your identity whether you’re going to play with one tight end or two.”

Brookwood will also lose Jackson Vaughn, a three-year starter at center.

The Warriors have their share of departures on the defensive side as well, starting with Camden Harbin at linebacker.

“There’s a lot of positions where there needs to be some competition at. Honestly, all three levels on defense, if you look at what we lost on the D-line, linebacker and secondary,” Boggs said.

“You hope to start solving some puzzle pieces (during spring) and say, ‘This guy is the starter.’ But it’s also developing depth. We’d love to try to be two-deep at every position.”
