Brookwood hoping to stay hot, ready for road trip to Terrell

THOMASVILLE Brookwood’s recent resurgence has the Warriors primed for another region title and premier spot in the upcoming state playoffs ... that’s if the Warriors can continue their winning streak.

Brookwood enters Friday night’s road trip to Terrell Academy having won three straight, capped by last week’s 48-12 rout of Tiftarea Academy. The updated state rankings has Brookwood No. 2 behind only defending champion John Milledge Academy.

If the Warriors finish with a No. 2 ranking, they would host postseason games up until the state championship game. But the team’s focus remains on the region standings.

If Brookwood defeats Terrell Academy and Deerfield-Windsor beats Valwood, the Warriors will win the region title Friday night.

“It’s exciting for sure, but we know we have two very difficult games in front of us,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “This Terrell team is really dangerous. I think they’re particularly good on defense. I think they return maybe eight on defense. It’s just a bunch of really good players. We certainly need to be focused on this challenge.”

Brookwood’s three-game winning streak followed a three-game losing streak that included a 56-19 loss to John Milledge.

Brookwood’s trip to Dawson on Friday will mark just the third time this season the Warriors will have played away from home. The team had much different outcomes in the first two games. It lost at Maclay (Fla.) 46-7 on Sept. 2 but routed Southland Academy 57-14 on Oct. 14.

“We actually played very poorly in that first one and then I thought we played one of our best games of the year up at Southland two weeks ago,” Boggs said. “We’re not too worried about where we play. We’re just trying to focus on being the best version of us we can be.”

The Warriors’ best version may be region champion by night’s end.
