Warriors Show Speed at State, Moore Wins 100 & 200

Brookwood Track & Field Competes at the GISA State Championship:

Destin Moore Takes Home AAA State Titles in the 100m and 200m Races

After three days of competition in Locust Grove, the Brookwood Warriors Track & Field teams came home with more hardware for the trophy case. The biggest highlight being Destin Moore’s AAA State Championship winning times in the 100m and 200m races.

Moore ran 11.05 seconds in the 100, narrowly edging out Elijah Goddard of Bethlehem Christian, to claim his second consecutive win in the 100m dash for AAA. Later on Saturday, Moore finished with a blazing time of 22.32 seconds in the 200m to edge Cameron Hayes of Dominion Christian in a photo-finish. Moore will return next year as a Senior to defend his now multiple state titles.

Kent Grayson scored well in multiple events for the Warriors. The freshman contributed 13 points to the Boys’ team total with 5th place finishes in both the 800m and 1600m events, to go with a 4th place finish in the 3200m. Grayson set a personal record time of 4:53 in the 1600m and will be a key piece for the Warriors in distance events for years to come.

In the 4x400 relay event, the Brookwood team of Moore, Rex Schofill, Clark Carter, and Tyler Cleveland finished 3rd overall in AAA with a time of 3:36. That mark was good for a Brookwood school record. All four of the runners on that particularly young relay group return next season.

Schofill, a freshman, finished 8th in the 400m individually. As a team, the Warriors finished 8th out of the 17 schools that qualified for the State Meet with 41 points scored.

On the Girls side, Carriyona Williams had the highest individual finish for the Lady Warriors with 2nd place in the 100m Hurdles. Just a freshman, Williams ran a time of 16.86 seconds. She also took 6th place in the 100m dash with a time of 13.69 seconds.

The 4x100 relay team of Ella Grace Squires, Abby Stalvey, Trinity Geerdts, and Williams finished 4th overall with a time of 52.84 seconds. Geerdts and Squires both also scored points in the High Jump, with 5th and 8th place finishes respectively. Squires added nine more points to the Lady Warriors total with a 6th place finish in Long Jump and 3rd place finish in Triple Jump. Freshman Kayla Lewis finished 6th overall in AAA in the Discus Throw.

In total, the Lady Warriors scored 36 points which was good to tie John Milledge Academy for 6th place out of the 16 schools qualified.
