Brookwood seniors dedicate The Warrior to Stauffer

Staff Report
THOMASVILLE -- The Brookwood School Class of 2022 dedicated their senior yearbook, The Warrior, to Mrs. Lori Stauffer. Stauffer has worked at Brookwood for 19 years as a Lower School science teacher. In her time at Brookwood, she has served as a mentor to new teachers, coordinated Field Day, and planned numerous cross-curricular projects with other faculty to enhance learning experiences.

Yearbook Editor Ella Grace Squires ‘22 shared that Stauffer played an important role in the seniors’ foundation at Brookwood. “From her famous ‘hush pups’ to using pantyhose and bananas to teach the digestive system, [she] succeeded in bringing science out of the textbook and into the classroom where we ‘did’ science in order to learn science.”

Members of the senior class showcased their appreciation for Stauffer’s teaching by reenacting a photosynthesis ‘cheer’ she taught them.

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen for the yearbook dedication this year by the senior class, especially since I have not taught them in seven years,” Stauffer said. “It was gratifying for me to hear and see some of the highlights from Lower School science. The ‘Photosynthesis Cheer’ touched my heart! Brookwood is a very special place and I am thankful for the opportunity to do something I am passionate about -- teaching science. Also, I taught almost the entire senior class, and it is amazing how grown and mature they have become. They have always been an enjoyable class and easy to work with.”

Stauffer has made an impact on the lives of countless students at Brookwood, including her own children, Allison Marie ‘14 and John ‘16. The class of 2022 feels that she makes all of her students feel, not only like scientists, but like family.

The yearbook dedication has been a tradition at Brookwood School since 1971. It is an honor decided by the senior class.
