Baseball Takes Series Opener over Valwood

Brookwood Baseball extended its perfect start to Region play, taking the week's series opener over Valwood at home on Tuesday night. The 7-1 win over the rival Valiants puts Brookwood at 4-0 in Region play and 10-4 overall so far this year.

After a scoreless first couple innings, Brookwood took the lead in the Bottom of the 3rd with a Parker Mirick single scoring Jacob Lauderdale from second base. In the Bottom of the 4th, Brookwood used the combination of a couple walks and a couple passed balls from Valwood's Will Vickers' pitching to scratch two more runs across. Patience in the batter's box was key, as Brookwood drew 9 walks as a team on the day.

In the Bottom of the 5th, Chris May's hard hit single scored Collin Clark and Camden Harbin to open up the flood gates. Later in the inning, Harper McLendon's 2-RBI double scored two more Warriors to add to the lead and it was 7-0 Brookwood. Valwood scored one in the Top of the 6th, but the Warriors were comfortably ahead.

Harper McLendon threw a gem on the mound, needing only 74 pitches to go the distance. He finished with a complete-game win, scattering 3 hits and 2 walks across his 7 innings of work. He struck out 4 Valiant batters and gave up no earned runs on the day.

The teams will meet again on Thursday for a doubleheader at Valwood to complete the three game series.
