Soccer Season off to Strong Start!

Lady Warrior Soccer is off to a tremendous start, winning the first two Varsity matches by a combined score of 16-0! On Friday night, Brookwood beat Atkinson County 9-0 on the road and then defeated Cairo High School at home 7-0 Monday night.

At Atkinson County, Ryan Gaston scored three goals for the hat trick, Jordan Burns and Hendley Bryan both netted two each, while Eliza Miller and Jessie Wortman tacked on two for good measure. Coach Foy noted, "We moved the ball very well in the middle and were ruthless in front of goal. We waited 350 days to play our first game. I couldn't have asked for a better start, proud of this team."

In a pouring rain, Lady Warrior soccer dominated Cairo 7-0 Monday night. Hutton Daniel scored an incredible five goals while Eliza Miller scored two.

On the Boys side, two wins in the first three games have come in more nail-biting fashion. A 3-2 win last Thursday over Sherwood Christian was highlighted by Julian Redrupp's two goals and Emmett Miles scoring one. Redrupp's two goals were in his first career Varsity game as an 8th grader.

Coach Foy commented, "We had a fantastic game on Thursday against Sherwood, our intensity of play, leadership and desire to win was first class. That is the standard we need in every game we play. We were first to every ball and battled to the final whistle. If we play that way in every game this year, we have a very good chance of winning titles. We beat a fantastic team that has not been beaten in regular season play in 3 years."

After a 2-3 setback loss to Atkinson County on Friday, the Warriors rebounded both literally and figuratively at home on Monday night in a driving rainstorm against Cairo High. Trailing 0-1 for most the night, Robert Gallagher's goal tied the game at 1-1 with less than ten minutes in regulation. Nathan Yokley scored off of a rebound with less than 7 seconds remaining in the game for the game-winning goal and the final 2-1 decision.
