Brookwood Basketball Sweeps Westwood

Brookwood took both Varsity basketball contests on Thursday night in the Beverly Athletic Center over the rival Westwood Wildcats.

The Lady Warriors took the first game in exciting fashion, a 48-46 win, in a battle of last year's AA and AAA GISA State Champions.  A 45-38 Brookwood lead disappeared with an 8-0 Westwood run in the middle of the 4th Quarter. Brookwood calmly came back with an Ann Murray Jackson midrange jumper to retake the lead 47-46 with less than 2 minutes remaining. Jordan Burns made one of two free throw attempts after an intentional foul. Westwood's last second desperation heave was intercepted by Jackson to seal the win.

Jackson led the way with 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Burns spearheaded the Lady Warrior defense with 3 steals and held Westwood to under 30% shooting from the floor as a team.

Brookwood won the Boys game going away, winning each quarter en route to a 65-39 win. The Warriors' 20-10 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter grew to 33-17 at halftime. Jack Boltja finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 steals. Garrett and Davis Ledford both reached double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. Brookwood's defense sparked the offense, scoring 28 points off Westwood's turnovers.

The Warrior boys host region foe Tiftarea tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Beverly Athletic Center. The girls are unable to play due to Tiftarea's girls following Covid protocols. That game has been rescheduled for February 6th.
