Brookwood runs over Westwood

THOMASVILLE – The Brookwood Lady Warriors bounced back from their loss against Pelham by run ruling the Westwood Wildcats on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors struck first, as Ava Bodell led off with a hard grounder to left. Bodell then stole second as Josey Hollifield came to the plate.

Hollifield grounded out to the pitcher, advancing Bodell to third with one out.

Next, Kendall Moore knocked a double into center to bring home Bodell, then advanced to third on an error by the centerfielder

Audrey Harrison stepped in the box and hit a sacrifice fly to left to plate Moore.

Following a quick inning from the Wildcats, Brookwood headed back out with some momentum. However, Lyla James West was left stranded on first as the next two batters struck out.

The bottom of the third saw the Lady Warriors break the game open as Bodell singled to open up the inning. Hollifield returned to the plate and following another steal from Bodell, Hollifield hit a routine grounder to short. But an error by the shortstop scored Bodell and advanced Hollifield to third.

After a wild pitch brought Hollifield home, Moore beat out a throw from second to reach.

Harrison drew a walk as Moore stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Next up for Brookwood was Ella Harrison. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Moore stole home to post the fifth run of the game.

After a strikeout, Hadley Halbig stepped in and hit a routine fly ball to the second baseman. However, the ball was dropped which advanced Harrison to third and brought Halbig to second.

With both runners in scoring position, West entered the box and whacked a liner into right to score both Halbig and Harrison. West ended up thrown out trying for second.

A one-two-three inning by Westfield put Brookwood on the offensive again.

Following a flyout, Bodell reached on a dropped third strike, then advanced to second on the throwing error by the catcher.

After Hollifield got hit by a pitch, Moore was up next and hit one to left to score Bodell as Hollifield moved to second.

Then Audrey Harrison stepped in and blasted a double into left plating both Moore and Hollifield.

Next, Ella Harrison reached on a hit by pitch. Then a fielding error allowed Halbig to reach first to load the bases.

West came up to bat next, and forced a fielder’s choice scoring Audrey Harrison and keeping the bases loaded.
The Wildcats did not let anymore runs come across as they closed out the inning.

Need two runs to avoid the run rule, Westwood tried to manufacture some scores but Hollifield shut the door to give the Lady Warriors the win.

Hollifield earned the complete game shutout, scattering four hits over five innings with four strikeouts.

Audrey Harrison posted one hit and three RBI while West tallied two hits and three RBI as well.

Brookwood will face Westwood again on the road on Tuesday, September 2nd at 4:00P.M.
