Brookwood’s Young, Walker named allstate selections
THOMASVILLE — Brookwood senior Preston Young and sophomore Holland Walker were both stars on the soccer field this year for their respective Warrior teams, helping the boys and girls soccer programs to Region 3-3A runner-up finishes. The pair was rewarded for their play by both being named to the GISA 3A all-state teams on Tuesday.
Young led the boys team as a dynamic playmaker from the center midfield position in his senior season, finishing with five goals and seven assists. Tuesday’s announcement marks Young’s second consecutive appearance on the allstate team. The four-year starter finishes his career with totals of 20 goals and 30 assists, to go along with four appearances on the all-region team and two region player of the year awards. As a sophomore, Young was a key component of the Warriors’ run to the Final Four.
Walker, a varsity starter since just the eighth grade, experienced her most prolific year yet as a sophomore while facing non-stop attention from opposing defenses. The aggressive forward led the Warrior girls in scoring with 25 goals and 10 assists. She now has two consecutive appearances on the all-state team. She tallied a six different games with a hat trick. In her 46-game career, Holland is up to totals of 59 goals and 20 assists, with two seasons still to go in a Warrior uniform.
