Coming off the loss on Wednesday, Warrior girls coach Kim Taylor saw a stark contrast in her team during the Wakulla game.
“I thought we played better defense the whole game instead of just the end,” Taylor said. “The ball went in the hole, we shot better, their mentality was better. They didn’t like losing.” Wakulla kept things close in the first quarter of Thursday’s tilt.
Threes from Holland Walker and Mollie Vick put Brookwood up 15-10 at the end of the opening period.
Vick finished her game with 20 points, which led the team.
“I’m excited for her,” Taylor said.
“She’s kind of been in a slump so it’s good for her to have a good game. She got everybody else fired up. That was our spark plug.”
Vick continued her hot start in the second quarter, pacing the Warriors with another 3 before Jordan Thompson added a mid-range jumper to fuel a 9-0 run, which led to a 21-10 lead with 5:58 left until halftime. The War Eagles trailed the Warriors 29-20 at the break.
Erin Lewis began the third quarter with five straight points, and Vickadded eight more points in the third to help Brookwood to a 48-25 lead at the end of three frames — an advantage it had no problem holding to the end.
Thompson and Lewis finished their nights with eight and seven points respectively. Ann Murray Jackson racked up 14.
