TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - One year after falling to St. Andrew’s in the GIAA AAA state title game, the Brookwood boys basketball team got their revenge, winning 61 -46.
The defending state champions led 27-22 over Brookwood at the end of the first half, but the Warriors responded in the second half, outscoring the Lions 39-19 to win.
“They’re special, and they earned the right to be champions,” said head coach Nate VanDuyne. “That’s what they’re going to be. They did a great job, battling back in the second half. I’m super proud of them.”
“We knew how it felt to be on the other side of this, and honestly, when you have that kind of taste in your mouth it’s hard to lose,” added junior Levi Williams. “I’m just so proud of everyone. Everyone who showed up, even the fans. This means the world to us.”
The state championship is the program’s first state title since 2008.
