James Mizell ’26 Earns Prestigious Peter R. Marsh Foundation Silent Servant Scholarship Award

James Mizell ‘26 has been selected as a recipient of the Peter R. Marsh Foundation Silent Servant Scholarship Award, a national recognition honoring high school students for their selfless volunteer service, empathy, and compassionate leadership in their communities.

The Silent Servant Scholarship Award is bestowed by the nonprofit Peter R. Marsh Foundation, which seeks to cultivate empathy and compassion among youth by recognizing students who exemplify voluntary service without expectation of reward. The award includes a scholarship and commemorative plaque and is intended to highlight students whose actions create positive impact and inspire others.

The award was presented in an Upper School assembly on Wednesday, February 18, where Mizell shared
reflections with his peers on the importance of serving others.

“We are proud of the strong academic culture at Brookwood, but we also care deeply about character and service. James represents the best of both,” says Director of College Counseling Dr. Jeremy Kasten. “He works hard in the classroom, but what truly sets him apart is his quiet leadership and his willingness to do the right thing without seeking attention. We value the Silent Servant Scholarship Award for recognizing the often overlooked impact of students who lead through consistent character and service. He earned it through years of selfless service and it was my honor to present it to him in front of his classmates.”

Mizell plans to use the scholarship to support his future academic and career goals. His example of compassionate service enriches both Brookwood School and the broader community.
