From Classroom To Culture: Brookwood Students Explore Spain On 10-Day Journey

THOMASVILLE, GA -- A group of Brookwood Upper School students recently traded their traditional classroom settings for the vibrant streets of Spain, embarking on an unforgettable 10-day cultural and linguistic immersion trip.

Led by one of Brookwood’s Spanish instructors, Danielle Posey, the educational journey took students through some of Spain's most historic and culturally significant cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Córdoba, Toledo, and Granada. The trip was designed to bring world languages and history to life by immersing students directly into the daily rhythm of Spanish life.

Throughout the 10 days, students engaged in a wide array of hands-on cultural activities. They rode bicycles through historic city centers, took a scenic boat ride, participated in a traditional Moorish dinner, and learned the art of flamenco dancing before taking in a live professional performance. The itinerary also included a visit to an authentic bullfighting ranch, where students had the unique opportunity to speak with a professional bullfighter, as well as an interactive culinary class where they learned to cook traditional Spanish paella.

"It always amazes me to see the classroom come to life during these trips," said Posey. "Everything we study suddenly becomes tangible. My heart immediately warms to see them get excited about my favorite place in the world, and I am so thankful to share my passion with our students."

In addition to the historical and cultural sightseeing, the trip served as a powerful exercise in experiential learning and personal growth. Students actively navigated major European cities, utilized public transportation systems, adapted to unfamiliar environments, and built a profound sense of independence.

"Beyond the cultural experiences, the kids also learn so much more about themselves," Posey added. "They build a level of confidence that you simply can’t replicate here at home. They were true explorers for 10 days."

By offering immersive travel opportunities, Brookwood School continues its commitment to building real-world confidence and providing students with perspectives that extend far beyond the textbook.
