THOMASVILLE: Two members of the Brookwood Clay Target Team recently competed in the two-day Georgia Junior Olympics, sanctioned by USA Shooting, competing in both International Trap and International Skeet events with impressive results.
Brock Roark, a junior, delivered an outstanding performance, earning a silver medal in the U18 International Trap event and a gold medal in the U18 International Skeet event. He also secured 1st place in the SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program) Varsity Division and was honored with the USA Shooting High Overall (HOA) award in International Skeet.
Sam Jones, an 8th-grade competitor, also had a strong showing at the event. He earned silver medals in the U15 division for both International Trap and International Skeet and placed 2nd in the SCTP Intermediate Division for International Skeet.
Both athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, representing Brookwood, and their SCTP team, Bridge Creek Clays, with distinction on a competitive statewide stage.
The Georgia Junior Olympics for USA Shooting are part of a nationwide series of competitions designed to identify and develop the country’s top young shooting athletes. Sanctioned by USA Shooting, these state-level matches give junior competitors the opportunity to participate in Olympic-style events such as International Trap and International Skeet under official rules and conditions.
Athletes who perform well at the state Junior Olympic level can advance to the National Junior Olympic Championships, where they compete against the best shooters from across the country. Strong performances at nationals can lead to selection for USA Shooting’s junior national team, development squads, and eventually the senior national team pipeline.
From there, top athletes may earn opportunities to compete in international competitions, including World Cups and World Championships. Continued success at these elite levels can ultimately lead to selection for Team USA and the chance to represent the United States at the Olympic Games.
The Junior Olympics serve as a critical first step in the progression from youth competition to the highest levels of international shooting sports.
