With five minutes to go in the third, Levi Williams drove in to make a layup and drew a foul for an and-one opportunity. After converting the free throw, the Warriors held a 14-point lead.
Williams added another highlight, when he deflected the ball off his leg, he managed to fend off two Bulldog defenders and got the ball out to a wide-open Will Stevens for a three to give Brookwood their largest lead of the night. However, the Bulldogs were not going away as they strung together a few baskets to keep the game from getting out of hand. Rashaad Andrews Jr. knocked down a three to cut the lead down to 15, and then he hit a deep fade to bring it down to 13 as the quarter came to an end.
Going into the final quarter, it felt like the game was not out of reach for Thomasville. Andrews Jr. hit a layup to bring the lead down to single digits with 5:23 left.
But the Warriors stood strong, as Williams and Stevens worked their way into the paint for layups, as the Bulldogs could not get the lid off the basket. Brookwood went on to win 67-55.
“This game has become a really big game to our community,” Warriors head coach Nate VanDuyne said. “The attendance and atmosphere are always awesome for this game, so anytime we can get a win in a rivalry game, it always means a lot to your team and school community.”
Roscoe Jones, who helped light the spark in the first half, came away with 22 points, going 9 of 13 from the field, along with 11 rebounds and three assists.
“Roscoe Jones has been playing really good basketball for us,” VanDuyne said. “He shot 9/13 from the field with 11 rebounds, so he was highly efficient, which was important. Thomas Lee has also been very steady; he has provided great on-ball pressure and has knocked down shots in big moments. Will Stevens is fabulous; he does all of the things that the common eye doesn’t see. He was physical on boxouts, an outlet versus pressure, and finished key layups around the rim.”
For Thomasville, Andrews Jr. finished with 10 points and two rebounds. Monte Colvin added 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Brookwood will face Maclay at home on Friday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs went on the road and faced Bainbridge, where they won 55-48.
