Thomas commits to Elon

Brookwood stand out TJ Thomas has announced that he is committed to play football at Elon University in North Carolina. As one half of the Warriors dynamic offensive duo, Thomas had a breakout year last year. Whether he was catching the ball or running it, Thomas was borderline unstoppable.

Last season he led the team in rushing yards, receiving touchdowns, and rushing touchdowns.

A constant threat, Thomas averaged over 88 receiving yards per game and 93 rushing yards per game. Thomas also recorded 27 touchdowns on the season, 11 of which he connected with quarterback Rodge Waldrop for.

One of Thomas’s best games of the season came in a 41-28 win over Terrell Academy. In that game Thomas had three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving, with 137 rushing yards and 105 receiving yards including a 55 yard bomb.

Thomas did everything he could to secure a college offer. He spent much of the summer promoting himself by working at camps and gaining the attention of college scouts. Now, just a month after receiving the offer, Thomas has committed to Elon University.

“Elon is just such a great fit for him,” said Warrior’s head football coach Shane Boggs. “They believe in him and they are obviously very invested in him. I’m just excited for all that is going on, including his ability to make an educated decision.”

Elon has had a decent football program in recent years. Just last season they finished 8-4 and secured a spot in the FCS playoffs.

The Phoenix put up a good fight in their first game against SEC program Vanderbilt before going on a five game win streak. They made it to the FCS playoffs ranked number 12, but lost to number 11 Furman.

Boggs thinks that Elon is a perfect fit for Thomas.

“I believe that Elon is like a really big FCS version of Brookwood School,” said Boggs. “It’s a high academic institution that tries to recruit high character kids.”

According to Boggs, both Thomas and Waldrop have had many schools recruiting them, from Power five schools to NAIA programs. But, Elon has been straight forward with Thomas and there have been no surprises from the North Carolina school.
