THOMASVILLE -- Brookwood School’s Lady Warrior softball program continued its strong season with a 10-0 victory over rival Valwood.
Brookwood's offense started slowly against Valwood, but the team gradually found its rhythm at the plate. Leading 4-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors began to make consistent solid contact and broke the game open.
The inning received an added boost when Brookwood's varsity football team, led by Coach Jason Hurst, arrived at the field to support the team. The football players immediately brought energy and enthusiasm to the dugout and stands.
Anna-Claire Pyle ‘30 got the fourth inning started with a stand-up triple to left-center field. Hadley Halbig ‘29 followed with a triple of her own, driving in Pyle to extend Brookwood's lead to 5-0. Emmalyne Shober ‘31 , Braelyn Byce ‘31 and Hadlee Sessions ‘31 then added hits as Brookwood continued to put pressure on Valwood's defense. The Warriors added to their lead and ultimately ended the game by run rule, 10-0, in the fifth inning. Sessions led Brookwood at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Byce was equally impressive in the circle, facing 18 batters while recording 10 strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
The girls look to carry the momentum from its rivalry victory into the remainder of region play.
