Starting Lineup: Brookwood’s Jason Hurst ready to rebuild Warriors football
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Over the last two seasons, Brookwood football has won just one game; finishing 0-9 in 2024 and 1-9 in 2025. So it makes perfect sense for the Warriors next head coach to be one with experience and success in rebuilding.
Enter Jason Hurst.
“The thing that comes first in any type of rebuild, is getting the kids excited,” said the Warriors new head coach. “This is my third head coaching position and all three have been somewhat rebuilds.”
Before Brookwood, Hurst turned a losing Fullerton Academy football program into state champions, then took a winless Northside Methodist team to consecutive playoffs with a top-five offense in Alabama.
“[It’s] really exciting, the challenge of getting a program back on track. To do it in my hometown, at my alma mater, it’s a little more special,” said Hurst. “Juices you up a little bit more.”

That’s the kicker of this hire. From 1997-1999, Hurst quarterbacked Brookwood football every Friday night.
“I can tell these guys, like on this very field against this very team, I’ve been out here before,” said Hurst, who doubles as Brookwood’s head baseball coach. “I think it adds a level of passion to what I’m doing and I think it also adds a level of trust with the players. They know I’m a Warrior through and through, just like they are.”
He already knows this Warriors roster too. Last year, Hurst was an assistant coach with the varsity and head coach for the middle school team.
“We had a great middle school team last year. We went undefeated and won the championship. So we do have some young guys coming,” said Hurst. “The good thing about that freshman group [is], while they’re young, they do know how to win, they expect to win. We gotta get those older guys feeling the same way.”
Hurst plans to build an exciting, high-powered offense to chase the Warriors first state title since 2007, but admits, the heavy lifting starts now.
“I would love to just get this thing on cruise control, where we can rip off eight wins plus every year. But in the meantime, we’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.
