THOMASVILLE– The Brookwood boys’ and girls’ soccer teams look to improve on their successful seasons when they begin postseason play on Wednesday.
Both teams were named No. 2 seeds in their respective brackets after strong regular seasons.
The girls’ team battled throughout the season. After a 1-5 start, the Warriors won 10 out of their final 12 games to finish 11-6, winning their first region title since 2021.
Brookwood is balanced with a resilient defense, which has only allowed 29 goals on the year, while also featuring a strong attack, scoring 51 goals this season.
The attack is led by the trio of Klaire VonHellens, Kami Sun, and Dylan Simmons. They account for 30 of the Warriors’ goals this season.
While Brookwood is a young team, they feature strong senior leadership in Sims Wetherbee, Pierce Garland, and Addison Gamble, who were all named to the GIAA All-Star team.
Meanwhile, the boys’ team sustained their success from last season, finishing undefeated in the region and winning back-to-back region titles.
The Warriors outscored their opponents 73-10 and only dropped two games on the season. The spearhead of the Brookwood attack is the duo of Harrison Chapura and Kenji Sun. Chapura is posting a remarkable season, with 32 goals and 24 assists, while Sun is also boasting a great season, scoring 19 goals and 23 assists.
This experienced Warriors team looks primed to make another run to the championship game where they fell last season to Westminster Schools of Augusta.
Postseason action for Brookwood will begin at home on Wednesday, May 13th. The boys take on Lakeview Academy at 4:00 p.m and the girls will face region foe Deerfield-Windsor at 6:00 p.m.
