THOMASVILLE – The Brookwood Warriors handled the Deerfield Windsor Knights 48-31 to win the GIAA 3A District three title on Thursday night.

The Warriors got things started quickly in the first, with a tip-in from Roscoe Jones to start the game, and on the ensuing possession, Jones stole the ball, drove in for a two-hand jam, and the foul. Brookwood continued its run with a three from Will Stevens, forcing a timeout from the Knights.

Deerfield finally got on the board following the timeout, with a layup to cut the lead to five. However, Stevens made his way to the line and knocked down two shots to go up seven.

Later in the quarter, Jordyn Jean hit a midrange shot to increase the lead to nine. Jean then hit a free throw to bring the lead to double digits with under a minute to go in the first.

Harrison Chapura hit a layup to go up by 12 as the quarter came to an end.

The Knights began the second by hitting a three to cut the lead to single digits, but then a dunk from Jones off a pass from Jean and another triple made it a 14-point lead for the Warriors. On the next possession, Jones made another three to increase the lead to 17.

After a timeout, Deerfield-Windsor came right back and hit a three to begin working away at the lead, but Jones stayed hot, making another three. Later, on a fast break, Jean threw the ball ahead to Jones for a dunk.
Next, Jean hit a three before the half came to end to hold a 30-8 lead going into the locker room.

The scoring for Brookwood slowed down in the second half. However, their defense stayed strong, keeping the Knights from cutting down the lead. The Warriors led by as much as 20 in the third quarter.

By the end of the period, Brookwood stood only eight minutes away from their third straight region championship.

In the final quarter, Deerfield-Windsor managed to cut the lead down to 16, but the Warriors kept firm control of the lead to seal the victory.

“Huge win for our program,” Warriors head coach Nate VanDuyne said. “Anytime you win a championship, it’s incredibly exciting. Tuesday was our senior class’s 100th win in their four years in high school. That and a region championship in one week is a phenomenal achievement.”

The title is their third in a row, dating back to the 2023-2024 season. The win also makes it their 19th in a row and their 26th region win in a row.

“We are continuing to show the progress we need to make in key areas of our run towards state,” VanDuyne said. “We made a ton of headway in rebounding the ball tonight and that is an area we must thrive in to make a run.”

The Warriors now await to see who they will face in the GIAA State Tournament.
