THOMASVILLE– The Brookwood Warriors continued their impressive run with their 15th win in a row against Florida State High School on Wednesday.
After being down early thanks to a three, Jordyn Jean knocked down a three of his own to tie the game. Later, after receiving an inbound, Levi Williams was stuck in no man’s land with a double team right on him, but he was able to find Roscoe Jones for the layup to gain the lead.
Following another three from the Seminoles to take back the lead, Jones got a tip-in off a Thomas Lee miss to give the Warriors the advantage. Brookwood began to build on the lead as Williams found Jones in the corner for three to go up four.
Williams then made a tough layup to increase the lead to six. However, the lead got cut down to one as the quarter came to an end.
FSUHS struck first in the second, as they knocked down a three to take the lead. However, a layup from Jones tied the game at 14 before Jones found Harrison Chapura for a three to regain the lead.
The Seminoles refused to go away as they made another three to cut the lead to one with 3:25 left in the half. But, like clockwork, Williams found Jean off the inbound for another three to bring the lead back to four. A couple of possessions later, Jones stole the ball and threw it ahead to Jean for a tough layup through the contact to increase the lead to six.
After a free throw from Jones made it a seven-point lead, FSUHS hit a three on their next possession to cut it to four. Williams then made it to the line and made a free throw before the half came to an end with Brookwood holding a 25-20 lead.
Both teams struggled to find the basket coming out of the locker room, as the Seminoles made a free throw to bring the lead down to four, but on the next possession, Williams found Will Stevens down low for a layup to give them a six-point advantage. After an FSUHS miss, Williams found Lee off the rebound, who then tossed it over to Jones to finish the break.
Following a pair of free throws from Lee, the Seminoles made a layup and drew the foul, but did not convert on the and-one. Next, Jones hit a layup and got the foul, converting on the and-one to take a nine-point lead.
After both teams traded free throws, FSUHS made a three to cut it to five. Following a miss on the next possession, a two-hand jam from Jones extended the lead to five. Later, Jones went to the line and made both to make it a nine-point lead. A contested three from Lee then gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game. But the Seminoles came right back with one of their own to bring the lead back to single digits.
With 30 seconds left in the third, FSUHS hit their second three in a row to cut the lead to six. Holding the ball until the last shot, Lee drove inside and made a tough layup as time expired to give Brookwood a 44-39 lead going into the final quarter.
Lee hit a turnaround fader to start the fourth. A couple of possessions later, he made a tough layup through contact and drew the foul. After making the free throw, the Warriors held a 10-point lead with 5:29 left.
Following a few empty possessions for both teams, Lee fired a pass to Jean in the post for a layup to bring the lead to 12. After a miss from Jean, Lee stole the pass following the rebound and laid it in to give Brookwood a 14-point lead with 3:23 remaining.
The Warriors continued to pull away, with Lee hitting Jones down low for a basket, then a free throw from Jean made it a 17-point advantage, and from there they held on to win 56-41.
Brookwood will return to action against FAMU-DRS on Friday, January 30th, at 7:30p.m.
