Brookwood Breezes by Tiftarea

THOMASVILLE– The Brookwood Warriors earned their third region win in a row with a 62-36 rout of Tiftarea on Thursday night.    

The Panthers jumped ahead 5-0 early in the first quarter, however, the Warriors did not blink as a layup from Will Stevens and then a three from Thomas Lee tied the game at five.    

Next, Tiftarea responded with a three of their own to retake the lead. Then a runner from Levi Williams put Brookwood within one with 4:13 left. On the next possession, Roscoe Jones found Harrison Chapura for a tough layup to grab the lead. Williams then added another three to go up by four. 

Following a pair of free throws gave cut the lead to two, a costly turnover gave the Panthers a wide-open layup on the break to tie the game at 12, both teams found trouble finding the basket as the first quarter came to an end with it all knotted up at 12.   

Both teams had trouble taking the lid off of the basket early in the second, as Tiftarea finally got on the board with a jumper, but Brookwood answered back on the next possesion with Stevens grabbing the offensive board and laying it up for two to level the game.    

Then a possession later, Jordyn Jean knocked down a three to give the Warriors the advantage. Soon, the Panthers answered back with a layup to make it a one-point game, but a midrange jumper from Lee made it a three-point lead once again.    

After a shot from Tiftarea cut the lead back to one, Lee drained another three to make it a four-point margin. Later, Williams went to the line to shoot two, he made the first, while the second miss, but Jones grabbed the rebound and hit a wide-open Jean for three to give Brookwood an eight lead with 3:06 to go in the half.   

The Warriors continued to pour it on with two minutes left in the half. First, Jones found Jean again for another three to give the Warriors their largest lead of the night. Then Jones called his own number and made a layup before the buzzer sounded, going into the half with a 31-18 lead.   

Brookwood started out the third on a 7-2 run, until a three from Tiftarea halted the run. However, the Warriors did not let up as Jean made his fourth triple of the night to increase the lead to 19.  

While the Panthers tried to rally in the final quarter, Brookwood stayed focused and held a sizeable lead as they went on to close out the victory against Tiftarea.    

Three Warriors finished with double digits as Lee paced the offense with 14; Jean finished with 13 and finally, Jones had 12.    

Brookwood will play out of region for their next contest, as they will head down the road to play Thomasville on Saturday, January 10th at 7:30p.m.
