Brookwood MathCounts Team Earns State Spots and Second Place Finish in Valdosta

Brookwood School is celebrating an exceptional performance by its MathCounts team following last Friday’s competition in Valdosta, where students earned top individual honors and a second place overall team finish.

Competing against more than 50 mathletes from across the region, Dominic Carugati '30, Xavier Alam ‘31, and Guy Pionessa ‘30 each placed in the top 10, advancing to the state competition. The Brookwood team of Dominic Carugato ‘30, Xavier Alam ‘31, Guy Pionessa ‘30, and Sawyer Pionessa ‘30 secured an impressive second place overall in the team category. Carugati led the way as Brookwood’s highest-scoring competitor, finishing third overall.

In addition to the team’s podium finish, Brookwood’s practice team, Yug Patel ‘31, Adriana Contreras ‘31, and Natalie Tyson ‘31, gained valuable competition experience and demonstrated promising potential for future MathCounts events.

“I am thrilled to share that we had an outstanding showing at this year’s MathCounts Competition,” said Jesse Miller, Middle Grades Math & Science teacher and MathCounts coach. “I am incredibly proud of all of our students who participated. Their dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm truly paid off.” 

Miller looks forward to cheering the team on at the state competition.
