Brookwood seniors cap home finale with rally

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
Brookwood’s softball team completed an improbable comeback on Tuesday night, defeating Deerfield-Windsor on Senior Night at Fenlon Field. In a memorable final home game for the four Warrior seniors, Brookwood won 9-8 with a fourrun rally in the bottom ofthe seventh inning. Trailing 6-0 when the game entered the bottom of the fifth Inning, the Warrior bats got hot at the right time. Anna Mc-Bride started the rally with a two-run insidethe- park home run on a line drive that just snuck inside the third base line and traveled all the way to the fence. Mollie Vick and Abbie Bustle kept the momentum going, reaching on infield singles. Abby Lee kept the crowd and the Warriors hopes alive with a two-run double to the gap in right center. Vick and Bustle scored easily on the play.
Lee completed the big fifth inning by scoring on a wild pitch from third.
The Knights were able to tack on what seemed to be some important insurance runs to bring the score to 8-5. Brookwood entered the bottom of the seventh down to its final three outs. The final frame started quickly, with the Warriors loading the bases with no outs. Kendall Boggs, only an eighth grader, stepped to the plate and came up big. On the first pitch she saw, she knocked a single through the left side to score two and bring the score to 8-7.
Bailey Noah’s bloop single scored Anna Stencel from third base to tie the game at 8-8.
With runners on first and third, with only one out, the same senior who started the rally got her chance to finish it. Anna McBride made good contact and put the ball on the ground towards the Deerfield shortstop.
Boggs ran as soon as the ball was in the dirt, using her speed to score from third base. The throw was just late enough and the Warriors had completed a thrilling comeback.
Brookwood travels to Southland today for the final region game of the regular season. Tuesday’s win could force a tie-breaker game to be played next week for playoff seeding between the Warriors and Deerfield.
