Brookwood to host annual college panel

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
Those interested in the college admissions process will not want to miss Brookwood School’s annual college panel, which will be held this year on Wednesday, March 28, and is open to the public. Representatives from Auburn University, Wofford College, Samford University, Sewanee: The University of the South, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and University of Alabama will come together to demystify topics surrounding college admissions for an audience of parents and their college-bound students.
Panelists will speak briefly about each of their schools, and much of the first hour will be dedicated to a question-and-answer session with the audience, said Vic Spigener, Brookwood’s director of college counseling. He anticipates that topics are likely to include how much weight schools place on the SAT and a student’s grade-point average; what colleges look for in a freshman application; and the benefits of applying early decision, early action, and regular decision. “They’ll hear it from the horse’s mouth,”
Spigener said. When the panel is through, each college representative will be available to speak individually with parents and their students during a mini college fair. “If parents have a specific question about a child to a specific school, they can use that time,” Spigener said. The panel will take place at Hines-Watt Hall on Brookwood’s campus at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Brookwood School is an independent, co-educational,college-preparatory day school that offers superior educational opportunities to qualified students from Junior Kindergarten through the 12th grade.
