Brookwood seniors stand out at GIAA all-star baseball game

One final high school baseball game for Zack Counts and Will Elkins meant one last chance for the Brookwood seniors to provide a lasting memory for the Brookwood faithful – mission accomplished.

The pair of Warriors baseball players made a name for themselves at the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) All-Star game last Thursday while representing the Warriors one final time on the diamond.

Counts and Elkins played for opposing teams in a game that took place at the Mount de Sales’ Athletic Complex in Macon, Georgia. Counts played catcher, while Elkins pitched and played in the outfield. It was a game that featured top GIAA talent from across the state, including from schools like John Milledge Academy, Pinewood Christian, Terrell Academy and Valwood School.

It was well deserved recognition for both players, as they delivered for their respective squads. Each belted a home run in the game.

“I think they enjoyed it. They enjoyed the experience,” Brookwood baseball Coach Daniel Funt said. “I think they represented us really well.”

It was the culmination of two stellar careers for the Brookwood seniors, who were instrumental in leading the Warriors to a 17-11 record and Region 3-AAA championship this past season. Both players were all-region and all-state selections as well.

Counts has already committed to play baseball at Gordon State College next year.
