Brookwood looks to cap another undefeated region season

THOMASVILLE – The Brookwood Warriors are peaking at just the right time. Their reward? A region title and potential high seed in the upcoming GIAA Class 3A playoffs.

“We're certainly getting better every week,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “I feel like we've made progress every week, most of the time in all three phases.”

Brookwood looks to cap its undefeated run in Region 3 when it travels to Valwood on Friday night. The Warriors have won four straight by an average of 25 points. They are coming off a 4128 win at Terrell Academy that clinched their third straight region championship.

“I thought defensively the other night, we did a nice job on some very talented running backs with a nice offensive line.

We got a pick-6 by Rex Schofill,” Boggs said. “On the offensive side of the ball, we had balance again. We had 481 yards of offense; ran for 150 and threw for 330. Obviously, we're getting great productivity out of the quarterback Rodge (Waldrop) and the running back with T.J. (Thomas), and all of those receivers are making plays for us.

The offensive line, in order to do what we did, you've got to get great play from your offensive line. I'm really proud of them as well.”

Brookwood has not lost a region game since 2019. This season's region run has been just as impressive than in recent years considering the depth of talented teams the Warriors have had to overcome.

“It's just a deeper region right now. Then you look at the statewide rankings. Four of our region teams are ranked in the top six in our classification, including us being second and Deerfield being third,” Boggs said.

“We've (also) won some of these games very convincingly, whereas last year, it seemed like every game came down to the last play.”

Don't expect any letup on Friday when the Warriors play the Valiants, their arch-rivals.

Brookwood wants to continue its winning ways heading into the state playoffs the following week and with its No. 2 ranking on the line.

“I think you have to assume (the postseason seeding) is at stake. The gap is not very big between the No. 2 and 3 right now,” Boggs said. “It's a big game regardless. Our kids are always excited about playing Valwood. I'm sure they'll be excited about playing us.”
