THOMASVILLE -- On April 18, 2022, Brookwood Lower School students filled Warrior Stadium to watch the 7th annual Ikidarod relay. The relay simulates the Iditarod, a long distance sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.
Prior to the relay, students spent time learning about the original trek from Anchorage to deliver life-saving medicine to the children of Nome, Alaska. Second grade classes collaborate with the Upper School Foundations of Innovation class each year to design custom sleds for the big race!
To bring their unit on the Iditarod to life, students took turns being the “musher” while pulling the sled around Warrior Stadium while trying to safely keep a raw egg intact to simulate carrying the medicine across Alaska. Both the T-Rex and Harry Potter teams rose to the challenge and kept the egg safe.
The Class of 2032 and the Foundations of Innovation class are excited to race at the 7th annual Ikidarod.
