Starting Lineup: Brookwood’s Daryl Jones

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) - “No Excuses.” It’s the word that has broken down every summer workout huddle for the Brookwood Warriors.

It has a very simple definition to new Warriors head football coach Daryl Jones.

“No excuses is simply, we’re not going to listen to why we can’t do something, it’s how we can get it done.”
If anyone knows how to get it done in South Georgia it’s certainly Jones. The longtime assistant coach of region mainstays like Thomasville, Thomas County Central and Cairo hopes to bring his pillars of athletic, academic, character and spiritual development to build the Rose City’s GIAA program back to prominence.

“I had one year in 2018 where I was able to experience Brookwood and enjoyed it so much that when it came time to come back again I did that last football season,” said Jones who was promoted from outgoing coach Shane Bogg’s staff. “When the opportunity came to lead the program and I was asked to do so, I was more than happy to do it.”

Jones has been quick to admit that the roster numbers of a smaller independent school have sometimes changed how to attack playing the game.

“They’re not gonna let us on Noah’s Ark because we don’t have two of anything,” he joked in good fun.
However, don’t take Jones’ humor as a lack of faith. The Coach loves what he’s seen from this year’s roster in workouts, hoping summer sweat can turn into fall success.

“The ones that we have are working so hard to overcome our competitive challenges from our lack of depth, that I can’t be more excited to see where this thing goes.”
