Warriors look to rise above .500 against Southland

Coming off a record setting win over Deerfield-Windsor, Brookwood is looking for their fourth win as they take on Southland Academy for just their second home game of the season.

Brookwood is coming off of an impressive last second win over Deerfield-Windsor, in which the Warriors offense scored 59 points and broke multiple school and state records. The Warriors are currently 3-3 and their win over the Knights puts them at 1-0 in the region.

Brookwood has shown that its powerhouse offense, led by QB Rodge Waldrop, can win them games. However, their defense needs to improve significantly. Deerfield-Windsor was 1-5 coming into Friday night’s thriller and hadn’t put up more than 30 points in a game all season. They were also coming off a shut out loss to Stratford. But, Brookwood’s defense gave up 56 points to the Knights.

That being said, Southland’s offense seems to be even less prolific than Deerfield-Windsor’s. The most points the Raiders have been able to muster is 21, which they put up in three of their four losses. In their wins, the Raiders scored just 16 and 14 points and won by a touchdown or less. The Raiders are coming off a loss to Terrell Academy where they gave up the most points they’ve allowed all season at 40.

It’s clear that the Warriors will have no problem scoring the ball. Between Waldrop, Seth Boggs, and Rex Schofield coming off of record setting performances, their confidence should be sky high. But, it’s the defense that needs a win. Can they hold Southland and stifle the Raiders offense?

Brookwood will host Southland Academy this Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.
