Brookwood sophomore Mason Howell won the Billy Horschel Junior Championship this past weekend. Howell said that it was very special to him as his parents were there to support him.

“It was really special to me,” Howell said “Winning an AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) was one of my big goals coming into this year and to have my parents there with me and supporting me through every round, every shot was really special for me.”

Howell led the tournament after day one at six under par. He had a rough second day in the competition, but stayed steady on the final day of play and finished in first place at eight under.

“I played really well. I definitely left some out there, but I’m definitely happy with the way I played,” said Howell.

Having achieved one of his biggest goals of the year with this win, Howell is focusing on his academics, hoping for an opportunity in college.

“Through high school my goal would be just to obtain good grades,” said Howell. “So that if I have the opportunity to play at the next level that would help me out.”
