Brookwood boys soccer looks to win first state title on Wednesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - For just the second time in their history, Brookwood boys soccer will play in a state title game. After losing their season opener this season, the Warriors have won 12-straight games to get to this point.

“Going into that first game, I think [we were] a bit overconfident. Losing like that, it was a bit disappointing, but since then, we’ve all been switched on,” said Brookwood head coach Jack Chambers. “Things have gone the right way with a little big of luck on our side in certain games, we’ve just continued to build momentum for the rest of the season.”

Brookwood lost in that lone championship appearance in 2011. This season marks their first playoff run in three years.

“We’ve been playing really well this year,” said junior Harrison Chapura. “It’s really cool that we’ve made it this far and have chance to do what’s never happened.”

The team from Thomasville seems to have caught lightning in a bottle this season with its roster.
“It’s a team full of characters,” said Chambers. “It’s a family, you would say.”

Harrison echoed that. “It felt like we were just missing a couple pieces last year and we just figured it out this year and it just clicked.”

The Warriors face Westminster in this years championship game. The Wildcats only lost two games all season and they’ve scored at least five goals 11 different times.

“We’re confident with the team that we’ve got. We just have to start well and take the game to Westminster, said Chambers. ”We can’t get caught sleeping. From minute one, we’re gonna be preaching today and tomorrow that we have to start well and take the game to them.”

If Brookwood can keep that powerful Westminster offense at bay, this game has a chance to be a dogfight.
“I think it will be a 2-0 game, 2-1 game,” said Chapura. “If we can put them away, I think we have a good chance.”

Kick off between the Warriors and Wildcats is set for 5 p.m. from Stratford Academy in Macon, GA.
