Warrior Basketball Sweeps Weekend

It was an exciting week of Warrior Basketball from start to finish. The Boys and Girls Varsity teams were the highlight, capturing wins that should build momentum for this season and into coming years.

The Warriors hosted Jefferson County (FL) High on Tuesday, winning by the final score of 71-50. Brookwood led from start to finish, taking a commanding 40-17 halftime lead into the lockerroom. Brookwood maintained composure and handled the Tigers' pressure in the 2nd Half and didn't allow any hopes for a comeback.

The Warriors had great balance in scoring, led by JP Chapman with 22, Kurtis Brown's 16 points, Jack Boltja's 15, and Harrison Owens finishing with 14.

On Friday night, the Lady Warriors defeated the Westwood School Lady Wildcats in front of a packed house. After falling behind early, Brookwood battled their way back and settled in during the 2nd Quarter. The Lady Warriors dominated the 3rd Quarter, flipping a 28-33 halftime deficit into a 48-38 lead going into the 4th Quarter. Brookwood beat the Lady Wildcats at their own game, pressing and forcing Westwood into mistakes. An exciting finish gave the Warriors a 60-57 win. The win snapped Westwood's 34-game winning streak.

On Saturday, the Lady Warriors returned to defeat Brooks County 61-37. Jordan Thompson and Erin Lewis led the team in scoring, each netting 13 points.

The Varsity Boys team took the night off Friday to prepare for Saturday's game against Brooks County. Brooks County came in confident after beating Thomas County Central by 15 on Tuesday night. The Warriors started strong and led the entire first half, leading 28-20 at the halftime break.

A flat Warrior 3rd Quarter flipped the momentum, giving the Trojans a 38-33 leading going into the final period.

Brookwood fought back to start the 4th quarter, as the Warriors took the lead on a 9-0 run. Sam Barrett's corner three-pointer put the Warriors up 50-42 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. A made free throw by Harrison Owens with 10 seconds left put the Warriors up 51-47 and comfortably in control. The Warriors smartly let the Trojans make a layup with just under 5 seconds left and held the ball out of bounds as the clock ran out. The Trojans were out of timeouts.

The Warriors were once again well balanced in the scoring column, being led by Kurtis Brown with 11. Jack Boltja, Harrison Owens, and Sam Barrett each finished with 10 points.

The win improves Brookwood to 3-1 overall on the season.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Dawson to take on Terrell Academy. Girls Varsity tips at 6:30 with the Boys following at 8:00.
