THOMASVILLE - Each year, Brookwood School kindergarten students participate in the Flat Stanley project to help increase reading and writing skills as well as learn about different cultures and places. At the beginning of the project, students listen to John Brown’s book Flat Stanley during story time, and then create their own paper “Flat Stanleys” to send out on adventures! Flat Stanleys are mailed out to family and friends all over the world, and get returned with photos and journal entries documenting their adventures. This year, Flat Stanley gets to embark on a different type of adventure- a virtual one! The recipient of the Flat Stanley takes him on a virtual adventure to all of their favorite vacation destinations and documents with photos of the computer screen. Keeping with the virtual theme, Flat Stanley emails his photos back to the teachers with a brief description of his trip and the many things he learned about the city and culture. While Flat Stanley and his adventures this year are one-dimensional, his house is not! Students had so much fun creating houses for him when he returned home from his travels.
