Lady Warriors Win 1st Round Matchup, Advance to Quarterfinals!
Lady Warrior Basketball in AAA Quarterfinals for second consecutive season!
Brookwood Girls traveled to Atlanta on Tuesday for a neutral site game against Westminster Schools of Augusta. Playing shorthanded while missing Sophomore Christy James, a defensive and rebounding star for Brookwood, the Lady Warriors were still more than impressive on that end of the floor winning 43-37.
With a 14-11 lead going in to the 2nd Quarter, the Warriors dug in definsively as a team and just kept getting stops. And more stops. And then a few more. Ella Grace Squires was a presence in the paint, blocking 7 Lady Wildcats' shot attempts on the night. At halftime, Brookwood had expanded the lead to 26-11, holding Westminster scoreless in the 2nd Quarter.
A back-and-forth 2nd Half saw Westminster tighten it to a 10-point game, 43-33, with just over 2 minutes left in regulation. Brookwood defended and rebounded well enough to hold on for the 43-37 final score.
Holland Walker had 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The Lady Warriors advance to the AAA Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season, where they will face defending state champion Holy Spirit Prep on Friday in Macon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Tattnall Square Academy.
