Warrior Baseball Sweeps Creekside, Advances to AAA Quarterfinal

In a doubleheader sweep Monday, Brookwood cruised to wins over Creekside Christian 13-1 and 11-1. Both games finished by mercy rule after 5 innings. It was the Warriors first playoff appearnace since 2016 and first playoff series win since 2014. The series sweep advances Brookwood to a Best-of-3 on the road at #1-seed Westfield starting Friday.

In Game 1, Jacob Lauderdale and Joe Parker combined for a no-hitter from the mound. Lauderdale struck out 8 and walked 2 in his 4 innings of work. Parker struck out 1 in his inning to finish the game. 

The offense was highlighted by Lance Wortman and Parker Mirick, each finishing with 3 RBI. All 3 of Mirick's came on a bases-clearing double in the Bottom of the 5th to end the game. Brookwood had 7 hitters combine to crank out 9 hits as a team. The Warriors took advantage on the basepaths with aggressive runners, aided by 6 Creekside errors.

In Game 2, Brookwood played as the "away" team and batted in the Top half of each inning. The offense stayed hot from Game 1, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the Top of the 1st. Marcus West highlighted the half-inning and capped the scoring with a triple to left field, scoring Joe Parker and Parker Mirick.

In the Top of the 2nd, the Warriors scored 3 more courtesy of three singles by JP Chapman, Lance Wortman, and Parker Mirick with Josh McCaskill reaching via a hit by pitch. Brookwood was up 7-0 and rolling. They tacked on 3 more in the Top of the 4th and 1 in the Top of the 5th to secure the 11-1 mercy-rule win after 5 innings.

Six Brookwood bats combined for 9 hits. Wortman, West, and Nic Lauderdale had 2 each. William Lee struck out 7 Creekside batters in his 3 innings on the mound, while Mirick struck out 5 in his 2 innings of work.

The win advances Brookwood to the GISA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2014. They will travel to Perry to play at #1-seed Westfield in a Best-of-3 Series that starts Friday.
