Thomas County 4-Her's excel at Project Achievement

Georgia 4-H Project Achievement empowers young people with skills for a lifetime. Through a competitive process, students explore their interests, unleash their creativity, share their work, and celebrate their achievements. 
Nearly 500 4-Her’s from throughout the Southwest District (41 counties) recently gathered at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia for 4-H Project Achievement. While at the weekend event, 4-H’ers took part in a two part competition which involved submitting a portfolio in their project area and then doing an oral presentation or performing to a panel of judges.  
Among the group were 22 4-H members from Thomas County 4-H Program. Results for the event are as follows: Junior Competition for seventh and eight graders — Keasis Horton, first place in Computer Information and Technology; Owen Petrey, first place in the Pizza Project, Heaven Thomas, first place – Family Resource Management; Malachi Thomas, second place in Dog Care and Training; Tyler King, third place in Outdoor Recreation; Gracee Sloan, third place in Photography; Wyatt Petrey, third place in Forestry and Wood Science; Hayley Law, honorable mention in Companion Animal Sciences; Adrianne Jones, honorable mention in the Safety Project; McKenzie Jones, honorable mention in Team Sports.
 
Senior results for ninth through 12th graders: Douglas Hopkins, first place in the Senior Safety project; Michaela Falconer, first place in Senior Dog Care and Training; Anna Lane Turner,– second place in Vet Sciences; Allie Ann Wheeler, second place in the Senior Horse Project; Je’Niece Manning, third place in Companion Animal Sciences; RonDasia Graham, third in the Senior Performing Arts Dance Project; Shadrick Hollis, honorable mention in the Senior Sports Project; Natalie Black, honorable mention in Performing Arts Vocal; Marshadron Hollis, honorable mention in Arts and Crafts; Jordan Jones, honorable mention in Performing Arts Vocal; Joshua Glass, honorable mention in the History Project; and Micah Sculley, honorable mention in the Sports Project.
Douglas Hopkins and Michaela Falconer will be advancing to the next round of competition, State 4-H Congress which will be held in Atlanta in July. They will both be judged in interview and public speaking and will be vying for Master 4-H status and a trip to National 4-H Congress. 
In addition, Hopkins was elected to serve on the Southwest District Board of Directors for 2018-2019 and participated in the Farewell Ceremony and the installation of the new officers, which was attended by his County Extension Agent Cindy Wynn and his parents, Jamie and Angie Hopkins. 
 
Graduating Senior 4-H’ers Falconer, RonDasia Graham and Micah Sculley were recognized at a special reception where they received several gifts including their 4-H tassel. Falconer and Graham each received commemorative pins for participating in the District Project Event since the fifth grade.
The Thomas County 4-H’ers were accompanied by Wynn, Thomas County Extension Ag and Natural Resources Agent Sydni Barwick, Thomas County 4-H Program Assistant Hayes Nelson, and  Thomas County Certified 4-H Volunteer Chrissy Wheeler.
