  • Ongoing Continuous Learning and Campus Closure (March 26, 2020)

    Thursday, March 26, 2020
    To the Brookwood Family:

We hope that you are doing well and continuing to adjust to all of the opportunities and challenges in our new normal.

As we look ahead past Spring Break, there remains ongoing uncertainty about when it will be safe to return to our normal daily activities. Among these many uncertainties is when it will be safe to return to school.
To that end, we expect to remain in Continuous Learning, that is, campus closure, beyond April 6th and for the foreseeable future. I want to be realistic with our students and families that we simply do not know now when it will be advisable to return to school.

    What happens next...

Our teachers have been working tirelessly to maintain our standards of academic excellence, as well as continuing to foster strong student-teacher relationships, throughout this time of Continuous Learning. This will continue.

For our Lower School Students, we have arranged a time for parents to pick-up materials for their children needed for ongoing continuous learning. Full details for the pick-up procedure will follow shortly in an email from Mrs. Newcombe.

For our Middle and Upper School students, there are no additional materials that need to be collected.
When will we return to school on Brookwood’s Campus?

As we have been doing, we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, along with national, state, and local guidelines and mandates. We will continue to communicate with you about the status and our thoughts and plans about the return to school.

    How do I get support?

Your Brookwood Family is here for you! Our community is essential to our school. We will continue with our morning devotions, engaged classrooms, and communication. Our Technology Team, Division Directors, Counselor, ARC Staff, Teachers, and Coaches will continue to be available and will continue to reach out.

    What can Brookwood Parents do?

Please let us know how we are doing! We are in an ongoing process of evaluating and soliciting feedback. Please direct your feedback to your child(ren)’s teacher(s), Division Director(s), and so on. Also, if you have had a positive experience with Brookwood during this time, please share your stories!

    Final Thoughts…

As I have shared, there is opportunity in crisis. I do not want to minimize our crisis and challenges in any way. That said, this is an opportunity to continue to foster and grow our Brookwood Community. Please reach out to one another. During a time of social distancing, we need social connection more than ever.

Finally, if there have been teachers or coaches who have made an impact in your child’s life at Brookwood, this is a wonderful time to let them know. We all entered this profession to make an impact on the lives of others. It is wonderful to hear when this has been so.

    Keep Calm and Warrior On!

  • Continuous Learning Starts Tomorrow! (March 16, 2020)

    Monday, March 16, 2020
    To the Brookwood School Community,
We are ready to continue learning!

While we did not begin this year with the thought that the campus would close and move learning into a digital environment, we are prepared. Our faculty has worked diligently for this transition and will have a lot to offer our students.

The theme of this year is “Grow.” I invite each member of our community to continue to adopt a growth mindset as we begin this new venture together. Change naturally brings about anxiety. However, it also brings about opportunity. We are looking at this time as an opportunity to teach and learn in new ways. We appreciate your support, understanding, and flexibility as we move through this time together.

We ask that you review the Continuous Learning overview on Brookwood’s website with your family. On this site, you will find information about what we are doing and how we are doing it. Also, please take note of the roles and responsibilities of parents and students.

Each morning will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a video devotion delivered via email. We invite parents, along with students, to join us in beginning the school day by viewing the devotion.
Afterward, there will be announcements and updates delivered by Division Directors via email, and then school will start. Please review the daily schedules, which are listed by division and grade level, and linked in the sidebar on the Continuous Learning webpage.

We will embrace this “new normal” and look forward to the return to normalcy.

In the meantime, be well, wash your hands, don’t touch your face, enjoy your children, and learn with us!
    Dr. Randy Watts
  • Campus Closure through April 6, 2020 (March 13, 2020)

    Friday, March 13, 2020
    To the Brookwood School Community,

As the COVID-19 situation evolves more rapidly and the need for proactivity in the prevention of the spreading of this virus becomes increasingly clear, Brookwood's campus will be closed starting on Monday, March 16th for three weeks, including spring break. Students will not return to campus until Monday, April 6th.

School will resume on Tuesday, March 17 in a distance learning format for all students.

Monday, March 16 will be a professional development day for our faculty to finalize the preparations for distance learning beginning the 17th. All grade level teachers will communicate with each of their classes regarding what tools they will use to implement distance learning. Attendance will be taken for classes, and Middle and Upper School classes will follow a 1-Day rotation schedule each day. Lower School teachers will communicate with students and parents regarding their classes daily schedule; work and assignments are expected for each day.

All scheduled activities during this period of campus closure will be canceled or postponed. Specifically, both the Auction and Prom will be rescheduled.

Division Directors will gather their students at the end of the day today to let students know what will happen, how to prepare for distance learning, and to provide assurance during this time.

Students should depart school today, March 13th, with all class materials and textbooks needed for distance learning. Monday, March 16, Brookwood’s campus will be open for parents who need to gather additional belongings for their students. Please note, students are not permitted on campus on this day. All parents who may need to pick up items on Monday will need to enter through Flowers Hall.

Should you have any needs regarding distance learning, please contact Kendra Burrus for Lower School, Keith Massey for Middle and Upper School, or Josh Hanke.

I thank you for your understanding and commitment to keeping our community safe at this time. Additional information will be shared over the coming weeks as needed via email, MyBrookwood, social media, and our text alert system.

I would like to end by recognizing the challenges that we are all facing. School closure, undoubtedly, represents a significant shift in your daily lives at home and at work. This will disrupt lives -- yours and others -- in Thomas County and beyond.

This is an uncertain time for your children. I pray that this is a time to further strengthen family bonds and to renew our gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. We are with you and can’t wait to see you back at school!
