Technology helps Brookwood students learn biology

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
Brookwood School AP Biology students are comparing rates of reaction of the enzyme catalase under different conditions. Students used Vernier probes connected to their own laptops to collect data and graph results. Groups tested the effects of temperature, pH, or concentration on catalase enzymes from either yeasts or chicken livers.
The Vernier probes measure the pressure, collect the data, and graph the data so students can find rates of reaction (using the slope of the line). Then, rates of reaction can be compared by comparing slopes.
