Mike Simpson Added as Clay Targets Coach

A veteran presence will be leading Brookwood’s Clay Targets team this Fall, as the school has announced Mike Simpson as its shooting coach. Simpson’s accolades in coaching shooters include being an assistant coach for the USA National team, which he has been involved with since 1996. Simpson’s primary role is to recruit and groom the talent which eventually becomes the USA Olympic squad. When not in South Georgia, he is routinely at the Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs working with the National team athletes. The 2013 USA Coach of the Year, Simpson has lead teams to multiple World Cups and World Championship events. He is also currently the head coach of all shooting sports at Florida State University, which operates a club team in the sport.

           
With 25 years of experience in 4H and over 20 years coaching experience, Simpson notes that “It’s evolved into a passion to help kids realize their dreams. If they have aspirations to pursue shooting in the Olympics, they can do that. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Brookwood Athletic Director Shane Boggs says, “Brookwood is blessed to have a coach with Mike’s credentials. He brings a depth of knowledge and has resources at his facility that will create a thorough approach in the development of our shooting team. I am excited about the impact Coach Simpson will have on the Brookwood Shooting experience.”

Simpson adds, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with quite a few athletes from Brookwood over the years. They’ve been outstanding young people and always enjoyable to work with. I’m excited to provide some formal structure and instruction to the program.”
