Impressive showing for Brookwood at Chiles 7-on-7

Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
The South Georgia and North Florida areas are two of the best for high school football in the country. The Brookwood Warriors garnered strong respect from their neighbors south of the state line this past weekend. Traveling 20 miles down 319 to compete at Chiles High School’s inaugural 7-on-7 Tournament, the Warriors appeared to be an underdog competing against schools from higher classifications with much larger enrollments.
That idea of an underdog was quickly turned on its head with wins over opponents such as Wakulla High, FAMU DRS, and Florida High. The Warriors then took consistent powerhouse Godby High down to the wire later in the day before dropping a close decision. Those results become even more impressive with the context of nearly all of Brookwood’s players must play on both sides of the ball with few breaks in between.
Marcus West, playing safety, led the defense. West was consistent in coverage and broke up passes throughout the day. On offense, Nick Knifer was a standout at receiver with multiple tough catches. Quarterback Joe Parker was solid throughout the day, connecting with Knifer and other receivers against defenses that were constantly changing their coverages.
Seeing those different looks in the summer help the offense grow, notes head coach Shane Boggs.
“This is valuable experience against some of the best athletes we’ll see all year,” he said. “When you’re going against bigger, faster, stronger guys the details become more important.
Our attention to detail, along with great effort, allowed us to realize a fair amount of success on the day.”
