Year in Review: Fall's Memorable Games

Softball
The Softball team experienced their best season in years, earning 2nd place in Region during the regular season and hosting a 1st Round Playoff Series. Two big wins stood out above the rest, coming from behind for wins over Region opponents Valwood and Tiftarea. These two were so great, we couldn't pick just one for Softball.
Aug. 31 @ Valwood, Win 13-9 with 6 runs in Top of 7th
The Lady Warriors ran out in front early against the homestanding Lady Valiants, taking a commanding 6-1 lead as they scored four in the Top of the 1st and two in the Top of the 2nd.
Valwood was able to creep back into the game and stay alive, scoring two more of their own in the Bottom of the 5th. The Warriors added what looked to be an important insurance run in the Top of the 6th, going up 7-3.
With a 7-3 advantage entering the Bottom of the 6th, it appeared the Warriors were just six outs away from a gigantic road win against the undefeated Valiants. The Valiants would score six runs in the half inning to storm back and take the lead, 9-7.
Down to their final three outs, the Warriors showed extreme resiliency. The gutsy 7th Inning got off to a great start with back-to-back base hits. After an out and a Kelly Richardson bunt single to load the bases, Anna McBride came to the plate in a pressure situation. She came through with a bases-clearing triple to give the Warriors a 10-9 lead.
An Abbie Bustle bunt coupled with Dara Moore and Anna Stencel doubles tacked on a few more runs to give the Warriors a 13-9 which they would hold on to. Landry Joyner's two strikeouts to start the Bottom half of the 7th led to Jessie Wortman's great catch on a line drive to seal the win.
September 7th @ Tiftarea, Win 12-10 with 5 runs in Top of 7th
It was the Warriors third consecutive win in Region play and second consecutive on the road in their final at-bat.
An even ball game early, the game entered the third inning all knotted up 3-3. After falling behind in the bottom half of the third inning 4-3, the Warriors responded.
In a pivotal top half of the fourth inning, the Warriors' charge was led by Anna McBride's triple. After a Kelley Richardson sac bunt brought McBride home to tie the game, Abbey Bustle was hit by a pitch. This allowed senior Dara Moore to step to the plate with a runner on base, which she took advantage of. Moore's homerun over the left field fence gave the Lady Warriors a 6-4 advantage. In the bottom of the fourth, Tiftarea responded with two runs of their own to tie the game at 6-6.
An eventful top half of the fifth for the Warrior offense provided the go-ahead run. Landry Joyner's leadoff double started things off. Ann Murray Jackson's sacrifice bunt advanced the runner, and Anna McBride's sacrifice bunt scored Joyner from third. The Warriors maintained that momentum, with a 7-6 advantage, by following it up with a three-up three-down bottom half of the fifth inning.
The Warriors left two runners stranded in the top of the sixth inning, which for a moment looked to prove disastrous. In the bottom of the sixth the Warriors appeared to have lost the game on hard-hit balls by the Lady Panthers and defensive lapses in the field by the Warriors. Four runs crossed the plate in the inning, giving the Panthers a controlling a 10-7 lead.
Resiliency and grit were personified in the top half of the seventh inning. With their backs against the wall, the Lady Warrior bats fought off defeat. Trailing 10-9 with two outs and a runner on, Abby Bustle connected, reaching second on an error and scoring Jessie Wortman in the process.
Senior Dara Moore stepped up to the plate with Bustle on second and two outs, and cleared the fence for her second homerun of the day. The two-run deep shot gave the Warriors a 12-10 lead, scoring five runs in their final frame.
Football
Due to varying factors, the Warrior football team got used to playing on the road this season. One of their longer trips was all the way to Pinewood Christian in Bellville. The long day on the bus didn't stop the Warriors from starting out hot on both sides of the ball. A 35-21 win against PCA earns this year's Football highlight.
September 1st @ Pinewood, Win 35-21
Jumping out to a big early lead behind a clicking offense and a suffocating defense, the Warriors did enough in the second half to hold on for a 35-21 win at Pinewood Christian Academy.
The Warriors started hot, taking the opening drive right down the field and finished it with Adam Davis punching in a 10-yard touchdown run. The rest of the first quarter was highlighted by outstanding play from the defense, not allowing the homestanding Pinewood Patriots any chance to build momentum.
Early in the second quarter, the offense had one of its most explosive plays so far this season. Joe Parker connected on an 82-yard catch and run to Bridger Middleton for a long touchdown to give the Warriors a 14-0 advantage. The defense continued their great first half the following series, forcing a Patriot fumble. Hill Turner recovered the loose ball, giving great field position for the offense. Another Joe Parker touchdown pass, this a 3-yarder to Jacob Atkinson, put the Warriors ahead 21-0 going into Halftime.
Late in the third quarter, the Patriots found life with a long touchdown run, but couldn't convert the extra point. The Warriors responded with an explosive kick return all the way to the Pinewood 15 yard line. Adam Davis punched in his second touchdown run of the night shortly thereafter, and the Warriors were ahead 28-6.
Two Pinewood touchdowns made Warrior fans uneasy, pulling the score to 28-21 with still 6:52 left. Another Warrior touchdown created a 35-21 advantage, and Colin Grimsley finished the win with an interception in the final minutes.
The Warriors win improved the team to 3-1 on the season, with all four games coming away from home.
Cross Country
The Cross Country program experienced great success again this year, with multiple runners experiencing personal records throughout the year.
In the team's third event of the year, hosted by Deerfield-Windsor in Albany Georgia, the Warriors came away with a strong showing competing against 15 teams from around the state of Georgia. The varsity boys were led by 12th grader Noah Owens who finished with a personal best time of the year 20.31 and earning Owens a 58th place finish out of 200 runners. The varsity Girls also had some strong runs, 10th grader Isabella Grayson finished first for the Warriors with a time of 26:15 earning Grayson a 48th place finish out of 134 runners. Grayson was followed by teammate Caroline Elkins who finished in 57th place with a time of 27.30.
