Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Staff Report
Brookwood’s track and field team competed at the GISA Class 3A state meet April 26-28. The highlight of the event was junior Kurtis Brown emerging as the 3A state champion in the boys high jump. Brown cleared five feet, 10 inches in Friday’s field events.
A few other leapers at the meet for Brookwood were eighth grader Ella Grace Squires and junior Jordan Thompson. Squires finished third in high jump in the girls event, while Thompson finished tied for sixth. Christy James, also an eighth grader, was good for seventh in the state in the long jump event, clearing 15 feet, three inches.
Brookwood also competed well in Saturday’s 4x100 meter relay. The Warrior team of Squires, James, Abigail Middleton and Abbie Bustle posted a season-best time of 52.87 seconds and finished in sixth place in the state.
With two middle schoolers on the team, joining forces with a freshman (Middleton) and a junior (Bustle), the team will return all four runners next year and expects to be even stronger.
Also competing at the state meet were Jessie Wortman, Tia Scott, Rayne Deese, Jack Saussy (3,200 meter race), Max Beverly (shot put), Ann Murray Jackson (discus), Will Cook (triple jump), and Noah Owens (triple jump, 300 meter hurdles).
