Brookwood girls earn win in home opener.
THOMASVILLE — Brookwood basketball held its home openers on Tuesday night, with the girls team earning a 47-34 win against Crisp Academy at the Joe and Mary Beverly Athletic Center. The Warriors began their night with a three from Jordan Thompson, taking an 8-4 lead over the visiting Wildcats with 4:30 left in the first quarter. A 3 from Holland Walker with 3:40 left in the opening period gave Brookwood an 11-6 lead. The Warriors carried a 15-10 advantage going into the second quarter.
Brookwood stayed ahead throughout the first half, but Crisp was able to keep things close. Still, with made shots from Thompson and Mollie Vick, the Warriors stayed ahead with a 20-17 halftime score, despite missing four of five free throw attempts in the second quarter. Ann Murray Jackson added a three a few minutes into the third quarter, part of a 5-0 run to start the second half to take a 27-17 lead. The Wildcats narrowed the score to 27-21 with 2:45 left in the third, but a three from Walker jumpstarted an 11-4 run to end the third.
Brookwood led 38-25 to begin the final period, and it stayed ahead of Crisp to earn the win.
Walker scored 10 points in the second quarter and ended her night with a team-leading 18 points. Thompson was close behind with 15.
