TCC hosts cross country invitational; Brookwood MS boys win state

Warriors win GISA Middle School Invitational at Bulloch Academy. 
THOMASVILLE — All four area schools saw some cross country action this past weekend.
Thomas County Central hosted its Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, with runners from Thomasville and Cairo also in attendance. Brookwood’s middle school runners competed at the GISA Class 3A state meet, with the Warriors’ boys capturing the state championship.
Thomas County Central
The Yellow Jackets’ boys placed fifth as a team at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, held at Thomas County Middle School. The Yellow Jackets’ boys group was led by freshman Clarence Williams, who finished the race 23rd overall with a time of 19:30.38. Dwayne Mitchell and Brandon Hopper each finished close behind, with 19:36.77 and 19:39.61 times, respectively Cara Eaton finished with the best time for Central on the girls’ side, finishing fourth among female competitors with a 21:15.40 time. Anna James placed second for Central with a time of 22:56.35. The girls finished sixth overall.
Zac McNichols and Reagen Anglin placed eighth and ninth for Thomas County Middle School’s boys. Makaina Griffin, Grade McNichols, Samantha Jennings and Elizabeth Rinehart placed second through fifth for the middle school girls.

Thomasville
Thomasville’s boys finished 11th in the event.
Chris O’Neal was the top finisher for the Bulldogs’ boys with a time of 21:37.35. Josh Lyons placed 76th with a time of 21:58.69. Emma Szwarc led the girls with a 39th place finish (26:01.67). Maggie May finished second for the Bulldogs (73rd, 28:49.62) McIntyre Park placed very well during the twomile middle school run, with Nolan Barnes and Cole Sullivan placing third and sixth. Anika Imhoff and Aly Morabito finished first and sixth.

Cairo
Cairo had two boys runners in Thomasville for the 5,000 meter race, Nijal Sanders and Robbie Edwards. Sanders finished 35th (19:54.57), whileEdwards finished 56th
( 21:01.00).

Brookwood
The Warriors’ Middle School team went to Bulloch Academy in Statesboro for the GISA Middle School Invitational. The boys finished first to clinch the state title, with Jack Saussy (third), Will Porter (sixth), Zachary Lauderdale (11th), Ben Parrot (12th) and Franklin Beverly (13th) all finishing in the top 15.
Wilson Young led the girls in her first state meet, finishing 24th out of 41 runners. Taylor Middleton finished 34th.
