Softball Defeats Southland, Controls Path to #1 Seed in Region

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors offense knew it was time to get going. A Raiders throwing error with two outs helped the cause, allowing freshman Ann Murray Jackson to score the Warriors first run from third base on the play.
The run provided some life and momentum, sending a renewed Landry Joyner out to the circle. A quick top of the fifth sent the Warrior bats right back to the plate.
With two outs, Dara Moore's hard hit single sparked the game changing rally. Mollie Vick's bunt put the go-ahead run on base. Landry Joyner, with two on and two out, made the biggest play of the season to date sending a 3-run homerun over the right-center field fence to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead.
With six long outs to go to secure the win, the Raiders threatened in the top half of the sixth inning, plating one. With two on, Vick made a spectacular catch in Left Field to prevent the Raiders from tying or even potentially taking the lead.
A three up, three down top of the seventh inning gave the Lady Warriors the win. It was their fourth consecutive Region win to improve to 4-2 in Region.
The Warriors have a busy three-game slate next week, hosting Brooks County on Monday in the makeup of the season's first game. On Tuesday the Warriors travel to Region opponent Deerfield-Windsor before hosting Valwood on Thursday afternoon. The matchup with Valwood will have strong implications for the Region Tournament seedings.
Thursday's win improved the team to 8-4 Overall, 4-2 in Region.
